Artist Statement
Through experimenting with many mediums, I thematically explore the unique, complex, and sometimes tumultuous nature of the feminine experience. I often draw inspiration from my own life experience relationships to create my work. Another feature I often explore is the frequently unnoticed “beauty in the mundane.” These specific moments are things I strive to capture through various versions of portraiture, whether sculptural, or two-dimensional. Typically, I find through my practice that thematically, these two subjects often go hand-in-hand.
My techniques applied to my non-sculptural works often include very sculptural techniques, which I feel connects an additional theme of intimacy to my pieces. My physical hand in my work carries a lot of weight in the intimacy that is born while capturing what could be considered a vulnerable experience. My practice heavily relies on the connection of my experience, therefore the connection of my body in a sculptural technique, to fully recreate the personal moment or experience in question.
